This interactive workshop will provide materials and an approach for teaching Greco-Roman poetry and dactylic hexameter to intermediate and advanced students, which has proven exciting for students and may encourage them to continue with their study of Latin. Participants will review basic principles of meter and scansion (particularly of dactylic hexameter), culminating in the composition of an English poem in dactylic hexameter. Discussion will be open for other experiences and approaches to teaching meter.
