Scholarship History:
In 1992, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its founding, TFLTA established the TFLTA Fund for the Future to support professional growth and development for foreign language teachers in Tennessee. Income from the investment of generous contributions from friends of TFLTA, special donations specifically solicited for the Fund for the Future, and profits from sales of official TFLTA souvenir items is used to support the awards. This scholarship provides recipients with a great way to interact with colleagues from across the state of Tennessee and to learn state-of-the-art theories in language pedagogy.
The Fund for the Future was renamed in honor and memory of Dale Sievers following his death in December of 1994. Dale was a charter member of the organization and served for many years as its treasurer. His careful management of TFLTA funds during his tenure helped make the creation of the Fund for the Future possible.
In 2007, the TFLTA board decided to select one recipient as the “Sabra Clayton Memorial Winner” of the Dale Sievers Fund for the Future, in memory of long-time TFLTA member and former President, Sabra Clayton. In 2011, the TFLTA board decided to change the name of the fund to honor Aliene Click, a former President of TFLTA, as well as Secretary and recipient of the Teacher of the Year award.
