Patsy Lanigan
Many people have called Patsy Lanigan the Energizer Bunny because she never stops! With all her teaching expertise, this professional believes in serving students, colleagues, and TFLTA. Most of all, she has dedicated her life to Foreign Language education in Tennessee.
She has served as a teacher of Spanish, French, English and ELL at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Webb School of Knox where she opened the Spanish Department, Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet, and Montgomery Bell Academy among others.
She is an outstanding educator due to her desire to learn and improve through professional development. She has had seven grants totally more than $15,000, done 5 summer workshops from AP Spanish, participated in Language to Smoky Mountain Writers' workshop and the Frist Foundation to study in Madrid at Sampere.
Some of her honors besides grants and fellowships include building a viable five-year program at schools, planning and implementing a 40 plus station computer lab at HFA for Foreign Language instruction, TFLTA Teacher of the Year and President/officer/board member/historian of TFLTA, and first runner-up for Tennessee Teacher of the Year.
Patsy is the Montgomery Bell Academy Faculty Sponsor for a new immigrant project in which she leads a team of students who are working on creating programs that will benefit Nashville's immigrant communities. She also established the AATSP-Bridge the Gap Program that helps other teachers fund their professional development efforts as well as the TFLTA Virtual Hall of Fame.
