Margaret Ann Smith
"Ms. Margaret Ann Smith has taught Latin, Spanish, and English. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt and two Master’s degrees. During her teaching career of 55 years she has taught in Nashville, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Lavergne, and Christiana . . . in private schools and in public schools. She has served on evaluation committees, received a Fulbright fellowship for study in Rome, and been very active in the Junior Classical League and American Classical League. She is a lifetime member of the Tennessee Foreign Language Teachers Association. Hundreds of students have sat and absorbed her words about language, about literature, and about life. In the study of language, even if a student forgets specific facts, he does retain the knowledge of composition and articulation. Effective teaching may be the hardest job there is, especially since the effects are often not known for many years."
