Francille Bergquist
Francille Bergquist came to Vanderbilt in 1977 to coordinate the first-year Spanish language program and soon thereafter joined TFLTA. In 1983, she was appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the College of Arts and Science but continued to teach one course per semester on a wide range of language and linguistic topics. Her duties in the dean’s office included overseeing the undergraduate advising program and monitoring students’ academic progress.
She received several awards at Vanderbilt for her service and teaching, among them the Madison Sarratt Award in 1983 for excellence in undergraduate teaching, the Chancellor’s Cup in 2003 that recognizes “the greatest contribution outside the classroom to undergraduate student-faculty relationships,” and, also in 2003, due to her participation in numerous Alumni Association programs, she was awarded the Alumni Education Award.
In 1993, she took over as Treasurer for TFLTA. Also since that time, she has handled the registration duties for the TFLTA Annual Conference.
She retired from Vanderbilt as Professor of Spanish, Emerita, in June of 2013.
