2025 TWLTA Workshop Session 1: Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About
Presenters: Teresa Todd
Date: Friday, November 7, 2025 1:00-3:30 pm (workshop session 1)
Description: This session will provide fun, proven examples of innovative group and whole-class speaking exercises. Participants will join in small group collaborative endeavors like Blindfolded Lego Building, and whole class speaking assessments like French 1 Guess Who. Other exercises, like French 2 Turning a Day School to a Boarding School, or Level 3 Honors Boardroom Funding Deliberations will be explained. Session participants will walk away with assessment materials and have time to start working on similar projects for looming final exams.
2025 TWLTA Workshop Session 1: Creating Communicative Online WL Courses

Description: This workshop will walk participants through the instructional design process for creating communicative online (asynchronous) world language courses. Using Merrill’s Principles of Instruction and Backwards Design Theory, Dr. Stevens will walk through the process of applying these to designing WL courses in higher education. Participants will leave with the understanding of how and why to apply these concepts as well as a beginning plan for designing an online course of their own. Participants should come with an idea of which course they would like to begin to develop, preferably a course they are familiar with.
2025 General Workshop Session 2: Breathe New Life Into Old Assignments Using Instructional Technology!

Description: Your old assignments can have a creative, new life! Transform them with easy, user-friendly instructional technology tools for students to create podcasts, videos, books, webpages and more. Sites include Adobe Express, Podcast Adobe, Padlet, and Book Creator. Participants interact with students' creations, go through a simplified process to create their own book, video, Padlet, and contribute to a podcast. Participants learn ways to chunk assignments and use a template to create an assignment ready-to-implement upon return to class. Participants receive a handout with strategies, ideas, and customizable templates and brainstorming in a Padlet.
2025 TWLTA Workshop Session 2 - New Teachers Toolbox

Description: This session will help novice teachers develop their professional toolkit. We will present practical ideas and suggestions to help new teachers thrive in the classroom. We will focus on ideas that are easy to implement immediately after the conference. We will also provide some time for a round table discussion to share and learn together.
2025 General Workshop Double Session: Teaching for Proficiency: Rethinking Language Teaching

Date: Friday, November 7, 2025 1:00-6:15 pm - Please note that this is a double workshop.
Description: What if your teaching could be simpler and more effective? In this hands-on workshop, discover how Proficiency Oriented, Comprehension-Based™ instruction aligns with how language is acquired and how to make it work in your own classroom. Explore key strategies, experience a lesson from the student perspective and walk away with ideas you can implement right away.
Breakfast and the awards luncheon on Saturday are now included in the conference registration.
