Description: Following the first year of the revised AP Latin curriculum, this session offers practical strategies for a balanced teaching approach. We will explore ways to build linguistic confidence, literary interpretation, and skill-based assessment fluency. Participants will analyze student samples from the 2026 AP Reading and develop techniques to scaffold complex passages, build sight-reading skills, and integrate vocabulary in context. The session also demonstrates how technology, such as digital annotation and gamified tools, enhances engagement. Educators will gain adaptable lesson structures and assessment ideas to help students excel in the updated course.

Using principles of instructional design, you will learn how to focus on your audience, content, and purpose. Be sure to come with a specific course in mind that you wish to work on. Laptops are encouraged if you want to get feedback on current course design. 


2026 TWLTA Workshop Session 2: Eurovision in Tennessee

Date: Friday, November 6, 2026 1:00-3:45 pm (workshop session 2)

Description: In this session, we will discuss Eurovision in TN for 2027. We'll begin by introducing the concept of Eurovision and demonstrate its effectiveness as a both a cultural and linguistic experience.  We will view highlights from Eurovision 2026, including “behind the scenes” from two schools’ live shows, and we will share testimonials from some of our participants in 2026, speaking on their own experiences with the project.  We will give participants a “peek under the hood” in how we create materials for Eurovision – including basic ideas for creation in both Canva and movie editing software.  We also wish to have a brief brainstorming session to get input from interested teachers, so that we can adapt and develop the Eurovision competition to meet the needs of as many colleagues as possible.

Description: In this workshop we will examine current and projected workforce demands and career pathways that are enhanced through multilingualism. After reviewing examples of career-connected curriculum, we will work collaboratively to brainstorm and develop ready to use activities for your classroom, keeping in mind Tennessee’s regional context(s), and how we might motivate students at all language levels. We will share resources and ways to connect with other educators who are innovating their world language curriculum and providing students with engaged learning and the skills they can use for a lifetime. Participants will leave with new perspectives of how their curriculum can be a gateway to the evolving labor market while still promoting the traditional humanistic value of language learning.
